St. James Park, this magnificent stadium has been rebuilt in recent years and is unrecognisable from the St James’ Park of olden days and has significantly improved facilities. 1st impressions – simply magnificent, inspiring, and very spectacular, it dominates the Newcastle skyline. Approaching the stadium, it looks absolutely huge. With the completion of an additional tier to the Milburn & Leazes End, the capacity has been increased to over 52,000 of which around 41,000 are allocated to season ticket holders, if you are looking for a ticket among the home fans then usually around 3,000 go on sale to the general public from the box office (monday) two weeks before the match takes place. SJP also has a great style roof which allows plenty of natural light to filter through. However one side of the ground look largely bigger than the other. Away fans are stuck in the farthest corner of the ground, up to 3,000 fans can be housed in this area for Premiership games and a larger allocation for cup games. There is a climb of 14 flights of stairs up to the away section and you are situated quite far away from the pitch, so binoculars may be needed. There are televisions on the concourse, showing live the game going on inside the stadium. Do not travel without a ticket as they sell out pretty quickly, so are hard to get.
St James’s Park today is one of the biggest and best stadiums in the country. With a total capacity of 52,167, it is completely unrecognisable from the old stadium which has hosted the talents of many heroes of Newcastle’s United.
