Nicky Butt
Nicky Butt began his career at Manchester United, an important part of their youth team he was promoted to the senior side in 1993 and became a regular from 1994-1995 onwards. Although, his oppotunities were limited due to the presence of Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.
He still collected many medals at Manchester United, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Champions League and was a part of the 1998/1999 treble winning team which won the Premier League, FA Cup (at the expense of Newcastle) and the Chaampions League (with the famous 90th minute comeback against Bayern Munich).
As more new signings kept arriving at Old Trafford, Nicky found first team football limited and in 2004 he handed in a transfer request, he turned down a move to Birmingham City in January 2004 and six months later he joined Newcastle United who were on the look out for a new defending midfielder following the sale of Gary Speed to Bolton Wanderers.
Nicky had a disappointing first season at Newcastle, prompting manager Graeme Souness to sign Amady Faye. Things then grew worse for Butt when the Newcastle fans turned on his after an FA Cup semi final against Manchester United in which Newcastle were defeated 4-1. Nicky had showed little effort and according to some fans, had assisted his old team to victory.
That summer with the arrivals of Scott Parker and Emre Belozoglu, he was shipped out on a season long loan to Birmingham City. On February 13th 2006, he walked out of Birmingham after finding out that Blues manager and former Manchester United team mate Steve Bruce had selected his son in favour of Nicky.
After Birmingham City were relegated from the Premier League, ironically by Newcastle, he returned to his employers, now managed by Glenn Roeder who decided to keep Butt on at Newcastle. Although Newcastle fans had still not forgiven him for his non performance in the FA Cup semi final.
