Cacapa

Cacapa began his football life at Atletico Miniero where he established hilsemf as a first team regular and received the Bola de Prata (Silver Ball) in 1999, being voted the best defender in Serie A.

In 2001, he attracted the attention from Europe and was soon of to Lyon. After two season in France he was named captain, he held the captaincy until his move to Newcastle in 2007 with Lyon winning the French league in each of these five seasons.

Cacapa refused to sign a new deal when his current contract expired in 2007 and instead opted for a move to Newcastle United, making his debut as an 89th minute substitute in a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. This appearance made him United's 1000th player in competitive games.

He made his home debut in a Carling Cup game against Barnsley and three days later helped Newcastle defeat Wigan Athletic 1-0. A month later he scored his first goal in a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

On November 3rd 2007 Cacapa suffered a set back after being substituted just 18 minutes into a game against Portsmouth. Newcastle were trailing 3-0 and Cacapa was at fault due to poor defending, it was later revealed that this bad performance was due to Cacapa playing despite a hamstring injury. He made his return on December 12th and was named man of the match.

Cacapa scored again for Newcastle in January 2008 to help them defeat Stoke City 4-1 in an FA Cup third round replay.
